Pro Plus and Max can push every backup straight to Google Drive automatically, in addition to keeping a copy on your own server. This is the single change that turns Quick Restore from “a backup I have to remember to make” into “a backup that happens whether I remember or not” — and it is specifically what protects you against the failure case that actually matters: your host itself going down, taking the only copy of your backup with it.
Why on-server backups alone are not enough
A backup stored only on the same server as the site it protects is not really a backup against server-level failure — if the hosting account is suspended, the server has a disk failure, or your access to that host is lost entirely, an on-server-only backup goes down with everything else. Sending a copy to Google Drive means the backup survives even if the original site does not.
How the connection works
You connect your own Google account under Cloud Storage settings — a standard Google authorization, not a shared or third-party account. Quick Restore never receives your Google password; it receives permission to write backup files to a folder in your Drive, and that permission can be revoked from your Google account at any time, immediately cutting off access.
What gets sent, and when
Every backup — whether triggered manually, on a schedule, or automatically before an update — is uploaded to Drive after it completes successfully on your server. If the upload fails partway (a lost connection, a temporary Google API issue), the on-server copy is untouched and the plugin retries the upload rather than treating a failed cloud sync as a failed backup.
Storage usage
Backups count against your own Google Drive storage quota, the same as any file you upload yourself. Combining this with retention rules — also included on Pro Plus — keeps only the most recent backups in Drive rather than accumulating every backup ever taken, so storage use stays predictable.
Restoring from a Google Drive backup
A backup sent to Drive restores exactly the same way as any other Quick Restore backup — download it (or restore directly if you are on the same site), and go through the normal restore flow. There is no separate “cloud restore” process to learn.
